- Additional time to execute model runs + optional additional reading (2 hours)
PRODUCT
MIKE 21 Spectral Waves (SW)
Spectral wave modelling is a key tool in ocean engineering and can be applied to many different types of projects. Spectral wave models are often used independently to determine wave conditions in many situations, such as in the design of structures. Very often, spectral wave models are used as input for other models, such as hydrodynamic models or sediment transport models.
This course will teach you the basics of setting up and running a MIKE 21 spectral wave model as well as relevant tools in MIKE Zero that will allow you to view and present your model results.
About MIKE 21 Spectral Waves (SW)
MIKE 21 SW flow model is a state-of-the-art spectral waves model capable of simulating the growth, transformation and decay of wind-generated waves and swell in offshore and coastal areas. The flexible mesh enables efficient modelling of complex bathymetries.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
Do you have a basic knowledge of wave dynamics? Are you interested in getting a kick-start in spectral wave modelling? Do you want to find out how easy it is to work with the MIKE 21 SW flow model and set it up for your application? If yes, you will benefit from this free, self-paced course.
WHAT ARE MY EXPECTED OUTCOMES?
Upon course completion, you will be able to set up and run a wave model using MIKE 21 SW flow model. You will know how to apply forcing such as wind or boundary conditions, change physical parameters such as bed roughness, as well as generate and evaluate model outputs.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Each module includes videos, materials and handouts that you need for model examples and quizzes. It will take you around four hours to complete the course at a time that fits your needs and requirements - and in the comfort of your own office, home or any location convenient for you.
MODULE DETAILS
- Module 1 – Wave generation and propagation
- Module 2 – Nearshore models and simplified formulations
- Module 3 – Long-term nearshore wave transformation
